Spring Renewal and Personal Growth (For the Parent and the Child)
Part Two of the Spring Renewal Series
Spring buds don’t just add color to hill sides, they change us. Spring quietly invites change. Take a moment to walk in the park, reflect, and reset. Spring is the perfect time to grow with our kids outside.
Homeschooling is not just about what our children are learning. It is also about who we are becoming in the process. Sometimes, that is the harder work. I have had seasons where I realized that what needed to shift wasn’t my curriculum, but my expectations. I was holding too tightly to what I thought learning should look like. Let spring loosen that grip. Your kids will thank you.
This spring try to mix up your schedule allowing time to notice what is working and what might be dragging you and your kids down. Get outside and enjoy the bright sun and cool breezes. The fresh air simply adds newness to the regular subjects. Spring won’t shed light on or fix everything all at once, but it can gently realign the heart of your home. Growth is not only academic; it is relational, emotional, and deeply personal.
A Spring-Themed Unit Study: Growth and Change
This is the perfect time to explore the theme of growth and not just in nature, but also in ourselves.
Spring exploration might include:
Reading biographies that highlight perseverance
Journaling
Take time to share the growth in character you’ve noticed in your kids
Create a ‘bloom where you are planted’ list of service ideas for your family
These are just a few ideas that connect learning to real life in a meaningful way. Share your spring learning ideas with Led to Learn to be included in the upcoming newsletter.
Growing Together
Spring can be a difficult time to stay on task. Summer is in view and with it the end of the school year. One spring, I realized that my children weren't the only ones struggling with consistency; I was too. That realization changed the tone of our home. Instead of correcting, I began to model finishing strong. Instead of pushing, I began to walk alongside. Spring reminds us that growth takes time. It isn’t rushed, and it isn’t perfect. Think for a moment of tulips, they lay dormant under layers of dirt, ice, and snow. When the spring sun warms the earth, the tulip are still weeks from blooming. This is as true for homeschooling as it is for spring flowers. Like the tulips, growth is coming, quietly and right on time.
Choose one small area in your home where you let the spring breezes change you this week; something simple, something sustainable. Let it be a step toward growth, not perfection.
And if you need encouragement along the way, Led to Learn is here to walk with you.
